Our Open Water Swim program is designed for confident swimmers who are ready to move beyond the pool and embrace the challenges of natural water environments. With expert-led coaching and structured training, participants build endurance, practice sighting and navigation, and gain confidence in variable conditions like waves, currents, and deeper water. Whether you're preparing for your first open water event or looking to refine your technique, this program equips you with the skills, strategy, and safety awareness to thrive outside the lane lines. ⇢ Open Water Season begins mid-May for Evolutionary Aquatics.
Skills you will learn:
Safely enter and exit open water from beach, dock, or boat
Navigate waves, currents, and changing water conditions
Use sighting techniques to stay on course
Practice deep water starts and treading in variable depths
Perform buoy turns and direction changes around markers
Swim in close proximity to others with controlled breathing
Manage cold water acclimation and safety awareness
Demonstrate emergency float and self-rescue techniques
Identify hazards like boats, marine life, and sudden weather shifts
Communicate distress and respond to rescue cues
Build endurance and pacing for longer distance swims
Understand and apply swim buddy and group swim protocols
